PHOENIX -- A car crash resulted in the death of a pedestrian at the intersection of Arizona Avenue and Fairview Street early Friday morning, authorities said.

The victim, Efrain Torres-Martinez of Chandler, ran into the roadway and was struck by a vehicle driven by Phoenix resident Christopher Beddow, 24, the Chandler Police Department said in a news release.

Christopher was arrested and released, and a preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol may have been a factor in the collision, police said.

Torres-Martinez died of his injuries at a local hospital, according to the release.
