Weekend Road Closures Announced

March 19 To March 22

UPDATED: 12:16 pm MST March 19, 2010

A section of westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) in Tempe will be closed this weekend as crews move closer to completing a project to add new lanes along the freeway.

The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers use alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the following weekend restrictions are in place:

  • Westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) closed between Loop 101 and I-10 in Tempe from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (March 22) for freeway widening work, including rubberized asphalt paving. The westbound US 60 on-ramps at Alma School and Dobson roads, approaching the section of closed freeway, also will be closed to traffic. DETOUR: Use the westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain or Santan freeways as alternate routes this weekend. Westbound US 60 traffic will be detoured to Loop 101.
  • Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) narrowed to two lanes between 24th and 32nd streets from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (March 22) for new lane construction. Westbound Loop 202 narrowed to two lanes between Van Buren and 52nd streets from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (March 22) for sound wall work. DETOUR: Please slow down and merge safely in work zones.
  • The ramps from southbound State Route 51 and westbound I-10 to eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (March 22) for new lane construction. DETOUR: Use alternate routes, including eastbound McDowell Road to southbound 32nd Street, to travel beyond the freeway-to-freeway ramp closures.
  • Westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) on-ramp at Scottsdale Road in Tempe closed from 10 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (March 22) for interchange expansion work. Please note that the ramp closure starts after Friday morning’s rush hour and continues through the weekend. DETOUR: Consider using westbound on-ramp at McClintock Drive.
  • Eastbound Interstate 10 closed overnight between Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (March 21) for Deck Park Tunnel maintenance. DETOUR: Consider using southbound I-17 starting at “Stack” interchange to the I-10 junction near Sky Harbor International Airport to bypass overnight closure.
  • Northbound Interstate 17 narrowed to one lane between Anthem Way and New River Road from 8 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (March 21) and from 8 p.m. to midnight Sunday (March 21) for pavement repair. DETOUR: Please slow down and merge safely in the work zone.
  • Interstate 10 narrowed to one lane in both directions between Jackrabbit Trail and Cotton Lane in the West Valley from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 11:30 a.m. Saturday (March 20) and from 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday (March 21) for new lane construction. DETOUR: Please slow down and merge safely in the work zones.
