Good News: Web Site Thinks Positive

Downer News Not Option On Site

If you are looking for bad news, most of the time it's not that hard to find. It's in newspapers, on television and on the radio -- it's all but impossible to avoid.

People complain that the news is too depressing, violent or controversial, causing some to avoid news sources altogether. Then, there are some who believe there's just never anything good out there to report.

HappyNews.com. puts the good in good news. It's a news Web site that offers a "pick-me-up" from what some would call the constant onslaught of dismal news. It delivers positive news only, with no exceptions.

"We encourage people to be fully engaged, fully informed citizens. That means we need to know the good and the bad," the Web site says. "We just believe much of the traditional media has strayed from this course and reports a disproportionate amount of negative news."

The site strives to find uplifting news that is unique. To do that, the site assigns "citizen reporters" to find interesting tidbits in their own back yards, news that would not necessarily be covered by traditional media outlets.

"Quite simply, having citizen journalists means that we can have eyes and ears in places that professional journalists wouldn't normally be stationed," the Web site says.

The site also uses freelance journalists and news wire services, such as the Associated Press.

According to the site, a "yes" answer to two basic questions defines the standards for Happy News: Would 95 percent of readers consider the information to be positive, and is it 100 percent accurate?

The content ranges from national news to sports to entertainment to business, with many other sections in between. There are also columnists that give their positive perspective on various subjects.

But is it too good to be true?

"There is no hidden agenda," the Web site says. "We are simply dedicated to bringing more happy news into the world for people of all races, creeds, and religions to enjoy."
