RALEIGH, N.C. -

A 6-year-old Raleigh girl was kidnapped early Wednesday morning and later returned to her home.

Raleigh police said a male suspect entered a residence in the 4700 block of Dansey Drive around 3:45 a.m. The suspect found a sleeping 6-year-old girl and carried her from the residence, police said.

The suspect took the child to an outdoor location near the residence and engaged in “actions suggestive of further illegal intent” and then returned the girl, police said.

At that time, the girl woke her mother who alerted police.

Police described the suspect as having close-cropped hair with short facial hair and wearing a white shirt.

Raleigh police are continuing to investigate the incident.
