Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young Arizonans from the ages of 10 to 24-years- old.
That sobering statistic is why Steve Schiro, a field advocate and state board member for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, wants people to get over the stigma of talking about suicides and depression.
In the wake of yet another celebrity death, Schiro says one Arizonan dies by suicide every eight hours. Schiro says, "We have 1,200 people a year die by suicide in Arizona. One every eight hours. I believe if it were any other illness we would be up in arms. How can we prevent this, but we rarely hear about it."
