Flies visit a Chinese Restaurant

Posted: Updated:
CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Violations range from flies to dirty bowls and cups in this edition of the NBC12 Restaurant Report. Here's what went wrong, and what the restaurants did about it.

First up, Shanghai at 6701 Lake Harbour Drive in Chesterfield, had 8 critical violations and 7 non-critical. The inspection report says there were house flies and fruit flies in the establishment and the premises were not being routinely inspected for pests. Violations were corrected on the spot and the flies were gone when the inspector returned ten days later. Shanghai had one repeated problem with raw chicken and shrimp stored where it could potentially contaminate cooked beef and chicken. It was relocated.

Moving to Richmond, Beauregard's Thai Room at 103 East Cary Street, had 6 critical and 10 non-critical violations. The inspector wrote that metal bowls, cutting boards, and cups were soiled to sight and touch. They were cleaned and violations were corrected during the inspection. The follow-up report shows Beauregard's had one critical: food in the walk-in fridge was not cold enough. It was thrown out.

Two movie theaters win the Academy Award of cleanliness. The NBC12 Hall of Fame Award goes to Bowtie Movieland at Boulevard Square and Criterion Cinemas at Boulevard and West Leigh Street for acing their health inspections. Movieland features a wine and beer cafe.
