TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Border Patrol officials are offering their assistance to help fix a road near Hereford, washed out by the monsoon, though they do not own it or are required to maintain it.

Here is the recent statement released by Border Patrol officials with the Tucson Sector - "Although Tucson Sector Border Patrol does not own or maintain the Paloma Trail Road, we are communicating with area stakeholders and other partners to determine what support we can legally offer in a joint effort that may lead to an acceptable resolution.  The Tucson Sector BP is currently examining options for assisting with the repair of Paloma Trail.  At times when the road washes out, we still fulfill our operational mission in the Naco area by using other contingency routes.  The Tucson Sector BP appreciates the open line of communication between our agency and our stakeholders in coming to a sustainable resolution."

According to BP agents they use the road to check on one of their cameras in the area, Paloma Trail requires a five minute drive to check, the alternate route requires driving an extra hour.

Officials with CBP are currently working with people in the area to see how they can help get the road back into service.
