The National Weather Service now says two EF-1 tornadoes hit Sullivan and Washington Counties Sunday evening.

The first hit at 5:45 p.m..  The EF-1 tornado with wins at about 110 miles per hour touched down along Rock Springs Road.  The NWS estimates that tornado was on the ground for only about a minute, but it was long enough to heavily damage a house, damage several other homes and barns, and uproot numerous trees.

Two minutes later, at 5:47 p.m., another EF-1 tornado with 100 mile per hour winds formed near Tri-Cities Crossing and Cox Hollow Road.  This one lingered for fifteen minutes, damaging numerous structures and trees along a seven mile long and 300 yards wide path before it dissipated near Highway 36 north of Boones Creek.

Local emergency management agencies plan to release an official estimate on property damage Tuesday.  In Sullivan County, EMA Director Jim Bean said 20 homes were damage; as many as five had major damage.

Remarkably, no one was hurt.

Below is an earlier report.
