BUCKEYE, AZ (CBS5) -
An autopsy has determined an inmate at the Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis in Buckeye was strangled to death.
As a result of the autopsy by the Maricopa County medical examiner, the Arizona Department of Corrections is treating the death of Gordon Lee, 59, as a homicide.
Lee was pronounced dead Friday, July 4.
"The Department of Corrections obviously takes this matter very seriously. Such acts are intolerable, and it's the intent of this department to prosecute those responsible for this act to the fullest extent of the law," said Corrections Director Charles Ryan.
Lee was serving a 75-year sentence after his conviction in Maricopa County on five counts of molestation of a child. He went to prison on April 1, 1988.
