TBI processes Roan Mountain murder scene

Posted: Updated:

Carter County Deputies arrested two teenagers after investigators said they went on a crime spree -- and eventually killed a 56-year-old Roan Mountain resident, Danny Vance.

“Friday the Carter County's Sheriff office received an emergency phone call and found a man lifeless on his front porch at 690 Heaton creek road. He was pronounced dead there at the scene," said Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes.

Sheriff Mathes told News Channel 11, his office called the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation out of Knoxville and asked for crime scene specialist to come to Roan Mountain and process the scene.

"We wanted to secure an airtight case in which the TBI has came in, that team is actually going through the crime scene with a fine tooth comb,” said Mathes.

Shortly after finding the body---a man hunt began.

Mathes said because both suspects – 19-year-old Demetrice Cordell and 18-year-old Anthony Lacey are Roan Mountain natives -- they were able to go undetected for hours.

According to Mathes---Vance's murder was possibly the pair's last stop of a vicious crime spree.

"We know that they were involved in a series of incidents, crimes that was occurring during the late night hours of July the Fourth, which led up to this robbery and ultimately the murder of Mr. Danny Vance."

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
