LOVELAND, OH (FOX 19) -

Best known for its name, Loveland is a city of more than 10,000 residents tucked into the corners of Hamilton, Clermont and Warren counties. As beautifully poetic as the name may be, the city is actually named after James Loveland, the first postmaster and an early storekeeper.

First settled in 1795 by Thomas Paxton, the city was actually known for a brief while by its intended name, Paxton. However, as early railroad freight masters and stagecoach mail carriers ordered that their mailbags be "put off at Loveland's store," the new name gradually stuck.

It was that very address featuring the Loveland postmark that has brought fame to the community, and today it is known internationally as the "Valentine City".

Truly a railroad town, the Little Miami Railroad was chartered in 1836 and built a track from Cincinnati to Zenia, opening in 1844. This line became the Pennsylvania in 1869 and is now the Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail.

The bike trail is along a section of the over 70 flat-paved miles of the Little Miami Scenic State Park. The trail in the vicinity of Loveland is particularly popular because of its easy access to historic downtown with ice cream, coffee and tea shops, restaurants and other special attractions.

Loveland celebrates the Fourth of July with the Firecracker Festival in historic downtown, which features a parade, live entertainment and family fun that acannot be missed!
