TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

New details are emerging about how many children are moving in and out of the detention facility daily in Nogales.  The estimated numbers were released after federal and state leaders met yesterday at the Arizona border.

During her visit on Wednesday, Governor Brewer had some of her questions answered. According to the Governor there are about 900 kids inside the center at any given time with 150 or so going in and out daily. This cycle is expected to continue through the summer; the latest group is headed out of state until shelters open here in Tucson.

One facility on Oracle and Drachman needs more paperwork before it can open as a temporary shelter for some of the children.

"I've been told there are facilities they will be discharged to.  Some out of state.  We know that the one in Tucson is up and ready to go to house about 280 unsecured so they can come and go as they wish," said Governor Brewer.

The building in Tucson, under consideration for a temporary shelter, used to be an old college apartment complex and a hotel before that.  It has about 140 rooms.  No word yet on when this shelter will open.
