Arizona governor's race: Fred DuVal

Businessman and civic leader Fred DuVal is a Democrat candidate for Arizona governor.

DuVal was raised in Tucson. He received a B.A. from Occidental College, where he was selected as a Luce Scholar. He received a degree in law from Arizona State University.

In August 2006, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano tabbed DuVal to become a member of the Arizona Board of Regents and served as chairman.

His career in public policy began in the early 1980s. He worked as a senior aide to Arizona Gov. Bruce Babbitt.

From 2002 to 2006, DuVal served on the Arizona Commerce and Economic Development Commission. He spearheaded the development of the state's 10-year economic strategic plan.

During his career, he served twice on the Democratic National Committee. 

President Bill Clinton appointed him the deputy director of intergovernmental affairs. He was responsible for the policy relationship between the federal government and every state in the U.S.

DuVal declared his candidacy on April 24, 2013.
