FINNEYTOWN, OH (FOX19) -

Finneytown is much more than a little neighborhood in Springfield Township. Did you know it's the home of recent Olympians, high school state title holders, a pop icon and even a potato chip?

Named for Ebenezer Ward Finney - the Revolutionary War hero who purportedly told then-Gen. George Washington to "haul your ass across the Delaware - this small four-square mile section of Springfield Township has made a huge impact on the world.

Take Pringles. Did you know they were named after Pringle Drive, the street where the Procter & Gamble executive who developed them lived.

It's also a powerhouse in delivering Olympic gold. In 1996, both Amanda Borden in gymnastics and Joe Hudepohl in swimming brought home gold for Team USA, and they brought it to Finneytown. Hudepohl in fact brought it twice, also winning gold in 1992.

But not to be outdone on the world stage, St. Xavier High School brings home state titles year after year, in sports from swimming to cross country. In fact, the Bombers have won more state titles than any other school in Ohio.

And the arts are also important in Finneytown. Rod Serling, who created The Twilight Zone called it home in the 1950s and so did Justin Jeffre, a member of the boy band 98 Degrees.

Finneytown is also home to the Panegyri Greek Festival, which has been celebrating all things Greek for the past 40 years. This year, the fun starts on Friday, June 27 and last all weekend.

So get out and discover Finneytown!
