CAIRO, EGYPT (POOL/CNN) - The Iraqi people have to be responsible for their own problems, according to secretary of state John Kerry.

He arrived in Cairo earlier Sunday, shortly before his scheduled stop in Iraq.

He says the U.S. is not responsible for the current tensions throughout the country.

"The United States would like to see leadership that is prepared to represent all of the people of Iraq. That is prepared to be inclusive and share power in a way that will maximize the ability of Iraq to focus on the real danger, at this moment, from an external source," Kerry said.

Kerry is the highest ranking U.S. official to visit the region since President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi won the election.
