SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A 2-year-old girl visiting the Valley with her family drowned in the swimming pool of a north Scottsdale house Wednesday morning.

The house near 99th Street and Pinnacle Peak Road was being rented by the out-of-state family, said Sgt. Mark Clark of the Scottsdale Police Department.

Clark said the girl was found unconscious in the pool just before 9:55 a.m. and it was not known how long she had been in the water.

There were no adults nearby, Clark said, and the pool was not fenced.

Clark said police were interviewing the family, some members of which were attempting CPR on the child when paramedics arrived.

The child was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare-Shea, where she died.
