PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Nearly one ton of marijuana, weapons. cars and $66,000 in cash has been seized in a sheriff's investigation into a Valleywide narcotics business run by a Mexican cartel.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, along with multiple federal and local law enforcement agencies, executed search warrants at six locations throughout the Phoenix area.

Besides all the cash and vehicles, they uncovered 1,710 pounds of marijuana and 15 weapons, including automatic assault rifles, according to MCSO Lt. Brandon Jones.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the operation identified the six locations as cells operating under the direction of a "Mexican source of supply."

Arpaio said the enterprise "is a very dangerous group of drug traffickers operating in our community."
