(CNN) – Michigan Congressman John Conyers will be included on the ballot in the state's August 5 primary, thanks to a federal judge's order.

State election officials had said Conyers didn't meet the requirements to get on the ballot. They said two people collecting signatures for him were not registered voters, which is required under state law.

Friday's district court order found the 85-year-old did have enough valid signatures.

Conyers has served in Congress since the mid-1960s.

He was going to enter the August 5 primary as a write-in candidate, if his ballot appeal was denied.
