PHOENIX (CBS5) -

In its final regular season game, the No. 3 Arizona State University Sun Devil Softball team dropped a 9-2 decision to the No. 2 UCLA Bruins on Saturday at Farrington Stadium.

With the loss, the Sun Devils drop to 44-10-1 on the year and 15-7-1 in Pac-12 action, while the Bruins improve to 48-6, 19-5 in conference play.

Following the game, the Sun Devils honored its senior class of Bailey Wigness, Dallas Escobedo, Cheyenne Coyle, Alix Johnson, Mackenzie Popescue, and Lindsey Edgerton.

With Popescue in the circle to start the game, the Bruins did not take long to score when, in the top of the first inning, UCLA's lead off hitter Ally Carda was scored off of a Sun Devil fielding error.

The Sun Devils answered quickly in the bottom of the opening frame. With outfielder Wigness reaching base via an infield single, shortstop Cheyenne Coyle hit a two-run homerun deep to straight away center field, to put the Sun Devils up 2-1.

In the second inning UCLA came back to tie it up at two runs apiece with a two-out RBI single by Carda.  The Sun Devils made it out of the inning as the Bruins stranded two base runners.

After an empty bottom of the second inning from the third Sun Devils, the Bruins opened up a three run third giving UCLA a 5-2 lead.  During the inning Dallas Escobedo entered the game in relief, while starter Popescue would be tabbed with the loss, her record falling to 20-3 on the year.

The Bruins plated two more runs in both the top of the fourth and seventh innings, while Carda, who moved back into the circle for the third time in this series, took the win for UCLA, and improves to 29-4 on the year.

The NCAA Selection Committee will announce ASU's postseason fate when it revels the Division I NCAA Softball Championship bracket on Sunday at 7 p.m. PT on ESPNU.
