Biography:

Steve Gallardo was born October 25, 1968, in Phoenix, Arizona. He is a forth generation Arizona native from a pioneer Mexican-American family. In 2002, Steve was elected to the State House of Representative in a new legislative district covering Southwest Phoenix, City of Tolleson, Glendale and Avondale. In October of 2001, Steve was appointed to the Cartwright School Governing Board to fulfill an unexpired term and then later elected in 2002 for a 4-year term. Steve was honored as being a former student of the Cartwright School District and youngest board member to ever serve.

Prior to seeking public office, Steve served as the Campaign Finance Administrator for Maricopa County Elections Department for 14 years. During his tenure with the Elections Department, Steve was instrumental in developing a new candidate-training program, spearheading voter registration campaigns and get-out to vote efforts.

Steve has been involved in numerous boards and commissions, including the Arizona Civil Right Advisory Board and Maryvale Village Planning Committee. Steve is very involved with the local and national Hispanic community and served as a member of such organization as NALEO (National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials), LCLAA (Labor Council for Latin American Advancement) and an MALDEF alumnus (Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund).
