Additions to the Grand Canyon University
women's basketball recruiting class continued with the signing of Kansas junior
college guard Devyn Edwards.
It was announced today that Edwards, from Topeka, Kan., who has played the last two seasons at Coffeyville Community College, has signed a national letter-of-intent to play at Grand Canyon University.
"They had a great atmosphere and really good coaches. It just felt right," Edwards told the Coffeyville athletics web site.
An all-conference choice, Edwards is coming off a season where she averaged 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists. She made a team-best 44 three-pointers.
"Devyn brings a toughness and strong work ethic to our team," said Grand Canyon coach Trent May. "Her experience and guard play will help with our fast-paced tempo. I am excited that she wants to help us build a championship culture here at GCU."
Edwards, a 5-8 junior guard, is the fourth player to choose GCU during the current signing period and ninth new addition since the November period.
She joins, 5-7 guard Zelor Massaquoi from Fulton, Md.; 5-9 guard/forward Mikaehla Connor from McKinney, Tex., and 5-10 junior college forward Cheyenne Hedrington from Barton (Kan.) Community College and Champaign ( Ill.) Central.
In November, GCU signed a group that includes, 6-2 center Eliza Martinez, from San Antonio; 6-0 forward Leticia Infante from Stockton, Calif.; 5-8 guard Casey Rarrick from Scottsdale, and 6-3 center Katelyn Lee from Chickamauga, Ga. GCU added 5-11 Australian guard Jessica Gajewski at the beginning of the 2014 semester.
GCU went 21-9 in 2013-14, finished third in the Western Athletic Conference and was selected to play in the Women's Basketball Invitational. Nine seniors graduated from this past season's team.
