Grand Canyon's No. 1 pair, Mackenzie Phelps
and Kelli Dallmann,
has been selected to compete in the American Volleyball Coaches Association
Sand Volleyball National Championships at Gulf Shores, Ala., May 2-4. The AVCA
announced its selections Monday.
The Phelps/Dallmann team was one of 10 selected pairs for the Best of the Rest Pool for the 2014 AVCA Sand Volleyball Pairs Tournament. Pairs from the six teams selected for the 2014 AVCA Sand Volleyball National Championships and qualifiers from the Best of the Rest Pool will play in the pairs tournament.
"What a unique opportunity for Kelli and Kenzie to not only be chosen as one of the teams to compete for a pairs championship, but also to be representing Grand Canyon University in the up and coming sport of sand volleyball," said coach Kris Naber.
GCU's No. 1 group has compiled a 17-4 record in duals and tournament play this season. They were champions of the GCU Pairs Tournament last month.
"I'm extremely proud of the work Kelli and Kenzie have put into getting where they are today," added Naber. "I look for them to make a name for GCU in Alabama."
Top-seeded Southern Cal leads the group of six teams competing in the double-elimination team championship. Joining USC are Pepperdine, Florida State, Hawai'i, Long Beach State and Stetson.
