Grand Canyon University senior pitcher Stephanie
Pesqueira has been named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of
the Week for April 14-20, as announced by the conference office.
The right-hander threw a pair of complete games over the weekend to pick up her league-leading 12th and 13th wins of the season and give the Antelopes sole possession of first place in the WAC standings. She gave up three runs on nine hits while striking out 12 in 14 innings of work. Pesqueira has not suffered a loss in her last 13 starts, dating back to March 21.
This is the third honor of the season for Pesqueira and sixth for a GCU pitcher, as Kiki Sepulveda, Kailey Regester, and Taylor Nowlin were all previous winners of the accolade.
The Antelopes will head to Seattle this weekend for a three-game set with the Redhawks. With two wins at Seattle U, Grand Canyon can clinch the WAC regular season title. The two foes will open action with a doubleheader on Friday before concluding the final conference series of the season with a Saturday afternoon matinee at Logan Field.
