The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated outfielder Cody Ross from the 15-day disabled list (dislocated right hip) and designated left-handed pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith for assignment, according to D-backs Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Ross, 30, suffered a dislocated right hip on Aug. 11, 2013 vs. the New York Mets while running to first base. He batted .290 (9-for-31) with 1 double and 7 RBI in 9 rehab games with Triple-A Reno.

In 94 games in his first season with Arizona in 2013, Ross hit .278 (88-for-317) with 17 doubles, 8 home runs and 38 RBI. Ross signed a 3-year free agent contract with the D-backs on Dec. 28, 2012.

Rowland-Smith, 31, appeared in 6 games with Arizona this season and posted a 4.91 ERA (4 ER in 7.1 IP). He signed with the D-backs as a Minor League free agent on Nov. 16, 2013.

In addition, the D-backs outrighted right-handed pitcher Alex Sanabia to Reno yesterday. He is 0-1 with a 9.49 ERA (13 ER in 12.1 IP) in 3 starts with the Aces this season.

The D-backs 40-man roster is at 39.
