TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Sierra Vista's Animal Control officers are asking for the public's help in finding out who abandoned a puppy in a dumpster near an apartment complex in Sierra Vista.

The puppy was found inside a 'Miracle Grow' soil bag, in a dumpster near the Oasis Apartments (4250 E. Busby Drive), according to a recent SVPD release.  The puppy, a female Maltese about four months old was wet, dirty and suffering from hypothermia.  No identification was found on the dog, according to the release, though she was wearing a red, rhinestone collar.

She was taken to a Sierra Vista veterinarian for treatment, and the puppy is listed as semi-critical due to a possible head trauma, according to the release.  The puppy is on the slow road to recovery, as she is learning to walk, eat and drink again.

Anyone with information is asked to call either the Sierra Vista Animal Control Office at (520) 458-4151 or the Sierra Vista Police Department at (520) 452-7500.
