SURPRISE, AZ (CBS5) -

A violent fugitive has been arrested following an hours-long standoff at a Surprise home, U.S. Marshals said Wednesday night.

The fugitive, identified as 21-year-old Samson Scott Messier, barricaded himself inside the residence in a neighborhood near Bell Road and Grand Avenue at around 3:45 p.m.

The U.S. Marshal's Service Violent Offender Task Force had been conducting an investigation into the whereabouts Messier, according to Deputy U.S. Marshal Frederick J. Freeman.

Several hours later, authorities were able to take Messier into custody and transported to a hospital.

Messier was wanted for kidnapping, home invasion and robbery in an incident in El Mirage earlier this month, said U.S. Marshal spokeswoman Amelia Swenhaugen.

Messier has a criminal history in Maricopa County. In 2009, he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and marijuana possession charges as a minor.

In 2010, he pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary charges.
