PAULDEN, AZ (CBS5) -
A CPS investigation into child abuse allegations led law enforcement authorities to arrest three people at a home in Paulden that was described as being in complete disarray.
Yavapai County sheriff's deputies obtained a search warrant on Saturday after CPS received abuse allegations involving four children, ages 5, 7, 9 and 13, at the home.
Aaron Foster, 32, is the children's stepfather and a level 2 registered sex offender. Elizabeth Lawson, 33, is the children's mother. Another person at the home, Jacob Owens, 21, was described as a family friend.
During a search, detectives said they found several marijuana and methamphetamine pipes in a bedroom where all four children sleep with both parents. The home was littered with trash and debris and clothes were strewn everywhere. Dog feces were found on the floor in the unused bedroom, sheriff's deputies said.
Deputies said Foster admitted he has a meth addiction and has provided and smoked marijuana with his 13-year-old stepdaughter.
During interviews with the 9 and 7-year-old children, they admitted smoking marijuana provided by Foster, YCSO said. Detectives said Lawson told them she had provided alcohol to her 13-year-old daughter in the past and had full knowledge that Foster had given marijuana to her children. She said she was also aware of Foster's meth addiction, YCSO said.
CPS arrived and took custody of all four children. The investigation into specific abuse allegations is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
Detectives said Foster, who is prohibited from possessing firearms based on a prior criminal conviction, was in possession of a 9mm handgun. The firearm was not located during the search warrant. Several rounds of ammunition and two knives belonging to Foster were seized.
BecauseOwens was found in possession of a marijuana pipe and marijuana.
The three suspects were booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center. Foster was charged with involving a minor in a drug offense with multiple counts, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, misconduct involving weapons and failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements. He remains in-custody on a $50,000 bond.
Lawson's charges include involving a minor in a drug offense and two counts of child abuse. She remains in-custody on a $7,500 bond.
Owens was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and has been released.
