MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

Police were looking for eyewitnesses of a serious crash in Middletown on Wednesday morning.

Police said the crash happened on Route 17 at the intersection with Wesleyan Hills Road around 7:20 a.m.

The Department of Transportation said the road was closed between Long Hill Road and Wesleyan Hills Road. It has since reopened.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that 17-year-old Umberto Spada was behind the wheel. They said his GMC pickup truck crossed the center line and collided with a Hyundai Santa Fe driven by 42-year-old Jennifer Wargo.

Spada had two juvenile passengers in the truck while Wargo had her two children in her vehicle.

Police said everyone was transported to the hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash was asked to call the Middletown Police Department's Traffic Division crash reconstructionist, Officer Michael Inglis. He can be reached at 860-638-4063.
