BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
Police have arrested a suspect after a woman's body was found inside a plastic container in a south Birmingham alleyway.
The body was identified as 61-year-old woman, Patricia McCain of Morris.
Police responded to the alleyway behind the Chateau Terrace condominiums on 15th Street South around 11:50 a.m. Sunday, April 6. A citizen noticed a plastic container, similar to a storage bin, in the alley and notified police.
"Officers located the container and observed what appeared to be a person inside a plastic container," Birmingham Police Lt. Sean Edwards said in a release.
The coroner took the body and identified the woman by her fingerprints. The coroner's office ruled her death as a homicide.
Police announced Tuesday they had arrested and charged 38-year-old Charles Jordan with murder in McCain's death.
Officials have not yet revealed a motive in the case but say that McCain and Jordan were acquaintances and that drugs may have been involved.
"We do believe there was some drug usageinvolved. But as far as the history of the individual we don't speak tothat," Edwards said.
Police don't think the drug involvement went beyond the two people involved.
"We don't believe there's heavy drugs in that area. Wethink this is strictly individual use," Lt. Edwards said.
Jordan is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
