GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A 77-year-old Glendale man was arrested by Glendale police on six felony counts of suspected sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy.

Ernest Arthur Rhodes was arrested at his home Wednesday on two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and two counts of child molestation after police executed a search warrant.

The victim claimed Rhodes touched him inappropriately twice the night of Dec. 31, and in a swimming pool two years ago, according to a police statement.

The victim said the touching in December happened in two separate rooms, the living room and a guest bedroom, according to the statement.

Police said Rhodes wrote emails to the victims' mother on New Year's Day and Jan. 2, apologizing, and explaining that the touching was supposed to be educational for the boy.

Rhodes said he received no sexual gratification because he claimed to be impotent, has prostate issues and had undergone bladder surgery, according to the statement.

Rhodes told police the boy tried to blackmail him after he called his mother to pick him up after the incident, but would keep silent about it if he was given money. Rhodes said he refused the demand and the boy left with his mother.

Police subpoenaed Rhodes' internet subscriber records and confirmed the emails came from Rhodes' account.

His next scheduled court appearance is April 2.
