Identity theft is a big problem in Arizona and across the nation, so CBS 5 News viewers took a big step in protecting their identities at the CBS 5 Shred-a-thon Monday.
Nearly 1,200 vehicles brought about 124 tons of sensitive documents to be destroyed on Monday.
CBS 5 News partnered with International Paper and the Maricopa County Attorney's Office; two names well-known to Phoenix-area consumers when it comes to shred-a-thons.
International Paper has been conducting some of the most widely attended and trusted shred-a-thons in the Phoenix area for a decade.
The all-day affair took place at the International Paper facility at 301 S. 30th St. at Washington Street in Phoenix.
Attendees were able to shred up to five banker-size file boxes full of documents for free.
