HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

An early morning fire displaced dozens of residents in a Hartford multi-family home on Flatbush Avenue on Saturday.

According to fire officials, 16 people, including six children were forced out of their homes shortly before 3 a.m.

David MacMillan, who lives on the first floor, says he came home around three this morning and saw flames coming from the third floor.

Instead of running away, he ran inside and up the stairs to wake everyone up in the home. MacMillan then he called 911.

"It [the fire] was going up to the roof pretty fast," MacMillan said. "I tried to put it out with some water, but it wasn't working."

There is no word on what caused the fire, and everyone in the house was able to get out without any injuries.
