The No. 5 Arizona State University water polo team got back to its winning ways on Friday, opening up the ASU Water Polo Invitational with a dominating 14-1 victory over Marist in Tempe, Ariz.
Abbey Kerth had a career-high four goals in the contest while eight different Sun Devils found the back of the net in the contest. Annie Kertes had three goals as she and Kerth combined for seven goals off the bench for the Sun Devils (10-6).
Kerth came out firing, scoring two goals in the first quarter as the Sun Devils jumped out to 5-0 lead before Marist got on the scoreboard with their one and only goal of the game with 6:27 left in the first half.
ASU would go on to outscore the Red Foxes 9-0 over the remainder of the game to end its two-game losing streak.
E.B. Keeve was spectacular in the goal, logging 13 saves in the contest to just one goal against.
Ao Gao had a solid all-around game as she scored twice in the game while adding a team-leading three assists in the game.
The Sun Devils were exceptional in killing penalties as the Red Foxes had the advantage on nine different occasions and ASU successfully defending all nine of those.
ASU returns to action tomorrow afternoon as the team takes on CSU Bakersfield in an MPSF conference matchup at 12:30 p.m. PT/MT before taking on Occidental at 3:30 p.m.
