GCU posts seventh top-five finish at SUU Invite

The Grand Canyon University women's golf team finished fourth at the Southern Utah University Invitational, hosted by the Thunderbirds at the Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah. It marks the seventh top-five for the Antelopes during the 2013-14 season.

GCU carded a 22-over 310 in today's final round to finish two strokes behind Southern Utah at 43-over 619. Weber State and Oral Roberts were declared co-champions after posting identical team scores of 39-over 615.

The 'Lopes finished the tournament with the fourth-most birdies (17) among the 12-team field.

Emily Kaye finished in a tie for third with a two-round total of six-over 150. Teammate Charlotte Jaengkit was just behind in fifth at seven-over 151.

It was Jaengkit's eighth top-10 finish in nine tournaments this season, and the third top-10 finish for Kaye.

Julia Shin, playing as an individual, finished 13th after carding an 11-over 155. Kaye and Shin both collected six birdies in the tournament, tied for the second-most in the field.

Mackenzie Sowers and Tiffany Hewetson tied for 20th at 15-over 159.

The 'Lopes will next be in action this Monday and Tuesday  at the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State at the Primm Valley Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev. Live stats will be available by visiting www.gculopes.com.
