OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Only essential workers were allowed to drive Wednesday morning in Lucas County as the area experienced another winter blast. Police officers absolutely fit into this bracket of first responders, and rough road conditions don't make their jobs any easier.
The plan for the Oregon Police Department is as always to keep everyone safe with several inches of snow on the ground, but now they must take that to the next level.
The officers are forced to drive a bit slower and bring out their vehicles with 4 wheel drive so they can maneuver the snow. Many of the calls they receive are of disabled vehicles.
The department also brings in some officers an hour early to ensure emergency personnel on the roads at all times.
"A lot of times we can put two man crews out so when we're responding to an emergency situation we'll have two officers on scene immediately," said Sergeant Chris Bliss of the Oregon Police Department.
Oregon police have some tips if you must travel in slippery conditions. They advise following the speed limit and letting someone know where you are heading, just in case you have trouble along the way.
