The mom of Ana Greer sheds new light on what may have led to her murder. Greer was killed last weekend by her ex-boyfriend. Greer's mom, Diannah Dinsmoor says Greer was murdered because she was protecting a friend.
"My daughter did the right thing and saved someone's life and my daughter paid for that with her life," said Dinsmoor.
Dinsmoor says Greer's ex-boyfriend, 15-year-old Matthew Bolton, was mad at Greer because she told school authorities he threatened to harm another girl.
"She was very proud of herself for that because she knew she did the right thing she actually said this is the best decision I've ever made," said Dinsmoor.
Dinsmoor says her daughter knew Bolton was upset with her, and wanted to make things right.
"My daughter had said to the school I'm going to meet with Matt and try to work this out. She just wanted to talk to him and make it be OK too, and it wasn't OK," said Dinsmoor.
Their conversation got so heated, Greer's friend asked them to step outside. That's when Bolton opened fire.
Dinsmoor recently spoke with that friend.
"He's very, very remorseful. I feel terrible for his family," said Dinsmoor.
Despite the huge loss, Dinsmoor will always be proud of her daughter.
"Kids just know the right thing to do, they know, and they feel good when they do it. So always, always do the right thing and this is a terrible, terrible tragedy and this shouldn't have been the result of it," said Dinsmoor.
Dinsmoor also feels bad for Bolton. She says he needed help, and he just didn't get it.
A memorial service is planned for Greer in California.
