A horrific case of animal abuse in Ashtabula.
On Feb. 27, a disabled dog named Daisy was savagely stabbed in the face four times.
Daisy's caregiver, Melanie Neff, tells 19 Action News that the dog shares her time between her home and the home of her ex-husband. Her ex-husband's girlfriend's adult son allegedly attacked the dog.
"It breaks my heart to think of what she must have went through that night," said Neff. "When I first picked her up she was awful, she looked empty inside, her face was caked in blood."
The man has since been arrested and is jailed in Ashtabula County awaiting charges.
Daisy, whom was already paralyzed from a previous spinal disease, had to have staples to piece her skin back together. Her jaw was broken in several places, and she has eye and ear damage.
"Being paralyzed she couldn't even run away so there's no way she would have posed a threat to him," added Melanie Neff.
The dog is currently recovering, but has a long road ahead.
"She's doing great, she's eating again, she's drinking, she's playing with Oscar the cat," Melanie Neff said.
