A driver and one of her three passengers are dead after the SUV they were in struck a tree in Scottsdale.
The crash happened at about noon Sunday on Scottsdale Road just north of McCormick Parkway.
Valerie McKay, 46, of Scottsdale and the driver of the SUV, Londo Burns, 63, also of Scottsdale, were killed in the crash, according to a Scottsdale Police Department spokesman.
Two other passengers, a 36-year-old man and a 61-year-old man, were taken to Scottsdale Healthcare-Osborn Hospital. There was no word on their condition.
The SUV was traveling northbound when McKay lost control, entered the median and slammed into a tree on the east side of Scottsdale Road just north of McCormick Parkway, said Scottsdale police Officer David Pubins.
McKay was pronounced dead at the scene and Burns later died at Scottsdale Healthcare-Osborn.
Northbound Scottsdale Road between McCormick and Royal Palm was closed during the investigation.
Pubins said it appears that speed likely is a factor and alcohol was not ruled out as a contributing factor.
