Bail set for driver in fatal crash on Summerlin Parkway

LAS VEGAS (AP) -
A judge set bail at $500,000 for a 51-year-old man facing felony driving under the influence charges in a crash that killed two people on a northwest Las Vegas expressway.
Gustavo Martinez-Garcia of North Las Vegas appeared in court Friday in a wheelchair, and his public defender, Laurie Diefenbach, said he was still recovering from injuries following the Feb. 5 crash on Summerlin Parkway.
Martinez-Garcia wasn't asked to enter a plea to two charges of DUI causing death.
Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Suzan Baucum scheduled a preliminary hearing for March 11.
Investigators say 20-year-old Savanna Rae Gonzales and her 31-year-old passenger, Frank Anthony Spenia III, were killed when Garcia-Martinez's Chevrolet Silverado pickup crossed a landscaped media and slammed head-on into their Toyota Corolla sedan.
