PHOENIX (CBS5) -

New teen drivers may face more restrictions if HB 2359 passes.

Under the bill, teens with a driver's permit, or in the first six months of a driver's license, would not be able to use wireless devices while operating a vehicle.

The House Transportation Committee passed the bill unanimously.

"By taking the wireless communication devices, cell phone if you will, out of the teens' hands, not only can we make them safer on the road and reduce their crash risks during their first year of driving, which is also the most dangerous year of driving on the road, we can also help motivate safer habits," AAA spokeswoman Michelle Donati-Grayman said.

Rep. Karen Fann sponsored the bill and AAA supports it.
