WACO, TX (KWTX/CBS) - Baseball and marriage don't have much in common unless you're high school first baseman Ryan Alexander.

He bought a brand new glove at Academy Sports this past weekend only to find a James Avery wedding ring inside with "I love my Marine" engraved on it.

Alexander and his family had been searching for the ring's owner since he found it.

Academy Sports and Louisville Slugger even joined in on Twitter to help search for the owner.

It took a few days, but the news eventually made its way to Rebecca Rumsey, who saw the story on the news.

She has been married to her husband, an ex-Marine, for 11 years. They were both at academy last week when Chad Rumsey was looking at gloves for their daughter, who plays softball.

"He was just trying them on seeing what he thought might be good - brand, size, all that good stuff for her," Rebecca Rumsey said. "He did not even realize that he had lost it until he went to leave the house Saturday and went to find it to put it on and couldn't find it."

Alexander and his family brought the ring back to Academy so it could get back on Rumsey's hand.

The store gave his team a $500 gift card, two Louisville Slugger bats and two James Avery gift cards for doing the right thing, but Alexander said he wasn't in it for a prize.

"Just how my mom and dad raised me, you know," he said, "If someone lost their wedding ring, it's really sentimental, and you'd want them to bring it back."
