PASCO COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Pasco County Sheriff's deputies say they've arrested a middle school student for transmission of child pornography.

Investigators say the student was using a new app called KIK to exchange pornographic images. They say the student requested additional naked photos from the victim and she refused to give them, so he posted the original pictures on his public Facebook page.

Detective William Lindsey was the lead investigator in the case. During a news conference Wednesday about the arrest, Lindsey explained how the suspect was identified.

"I became aware of this case when the mother of the 13-year old girl was on Facebook and the 13-year old girl was tagged by the boy who posted images of her, so that all of the girl's family and friends would see the pictures of her," said Lindsey.

"This was a guy she thought she was in a relationship with. And, that, she had no idea this was going to take place. This was a normal little teen age crush, talking on line, she had no idea this was going to happen until her mom showed her the pictures."

The arrest of the middle school student was one of a many child pornography cases the sheriff's office has recently investigated. Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco held a news conference Wednesday to announce the arrest of a dozen individuals he says are responsible for transmission or possession of child pornography.

In another case investigated by the Pasco Sheriff's Office, Jami Hastings found a computer memory disc in her apartment left behind by a man who'd been staying with her and her family. Investigators say the disc was filled with images of that man sexually battering a 4-year-old child.

"I'm a mother, so I was horrified," said Hastings. "I was concerned a little for my children, I know we never left him alone with our girls. But, I was very concerned because I knew that he had been alone with this child. I knew her mother, and I knew her."

That man, Daniel Colarusso, has now been arrested for sexual battery, according to deputies. He's in custody in Sarasota and is awaiting extradition to Pasco County.
