SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A dog rescued from a canal by Scottsdale firefighters and officers last week is now up for adoption.

A person passing by the canal at McDonald and Cattletrack last Saturday saw the Labradoodle, attempted to rescue him and called 911.

A Scottsdale firefighter was able to lasso the dog while another firefighter worked with Scottsdale police officers to pull the dog from the water.

Crews used a FIDO bag to give oxygen to the dog who was then taken to a vet.

The 9-year-old dog had a chip, but it was inactive. Officers were able to determine his name was Max but there was no information on an owner.

Lost Our Home Pet Foundation is now working to find a new home for him.

"Max is doing fine physically although he is really traumatized by water," Founder and Executive Director of Lost Our Home Jodi Polanski said. "He desperately needs to be groomed but even water running softly from a hose sparks immense fear."

Polanski said she hopes his owner shows up or they find him a new adoptive family "very soon."

For more information about how to adopt Max, call the rescue at 602-445-PETS (7387) or by email at info@LostOurHome.org.
