PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The American Humane Society is hoping to put a special bow on gifts this Valentine's Day.

For the first time ever, AHS adoption matchmakers will deliver microchipped kittens right to the front door of the intended recipient.

The delivery will also include a starter kit containing a travel kennel, litter box, litter, food and a sweet treat for the new pet parent. The whole package costs $150.

All AHS pets have been spayed or neutered. They will have received their first vaccinations and will get a free veterinarian exam with VCA Animal Hospitals.

The society said it needed to create a new way to help clear out their shelters and save the animals' lives.

Matchmakers will work directly with each customer to customize the experience from start to end, said AHS spokeswoman Bretta Nelson.

The customer will go to the shelter and pick one of the Valentine's Day kittens that the gift-giver feels best meets the needs of the person receiving the kitten.

AHS will coordinate the delivery of the kitten on Valentine's Day to either their home or business to ensure the recipient will be present.

All interested gift-givers/adopters can call 602-997-7585, extension 1084, to set up an appointment to go to the shelter.
