KINGMAN, AZ (CBS5) -

A Lake Havasu City man safely escaped from his plane before it caught fire after a failed takeoff attempt in Wikieup on Sunday morning.

James Logsdon, 59, had flown his 1948 Cessna 170 single-engine plane from Lake Havasu City to Wikieup, about eight miles west of U.S. Highway 93, said Trish Carter of the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

But as he was trying to take off again about 10:46 a.m., he apparently ran out of runway and went into a pasture, where the plane flipped forward and caught fire, Carter said.

Logsdon was the only occupant and was not injured, Carter said.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate, Carter said.
