TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Tucson couple accused of holding three sisters captive in a midtown home appeared in court Tuesday morning for a status conference.

Sophia and Fernando Richter appeared with their attorneys to update the court on progress in the case.

They pleaded not guilty last month to charges of kidnapping and child abuse.

Prosecutors said today they are not cutting a plea deal with the Richters.

Tucson Police say the couple kept Sophia's three daughters in dungeon-like isolation and confinement for up to two years.

Two of the girls managed to escape and call 911 from a neighbor's house just before Thanksgiving.

All three girls are now in the custody of the state, but they are living together.

The judge today also issued a gag order, barring out-of-court comments by people involved in the case.
