A homeless man accused of breaking into a Chandler home and attempting to sexually assault a sleeping woman has pleaded guilty in the case.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 20-year-old Francisco Antonio Moreno changed his plea at a hearing Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to kidnapping, attempted sexual assault and armed robbery and is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 17.
Moreno was arrested June 1 and pleaded not guilty in the case 16 days later.
Chandler police say the victim was awakened by a man she didn't know pulling her pants down.
The man allegedly grabbed a hatchet that he had placed on a nightstand near the bed as the victim grabbed her cellphone.
They struggled over the phone, during which time the victim's left wrist was cut by the hatchet.
