PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Police have arrested an ATV rider who fled the scene of a fatal dirt bike crash in Phoenix last week.

Gregg Creevy, 48, is facing criminal charges, according to police.

The vehicles collided in the desert near the 25,000 block of North 57th Street around 5 p.m.

The rider of the dirt bike, Frisco Davidson-Spurs Yankolovich, 20, was rushed to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries, said Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

Police believe Creevy stopped and looked at the victim, then left the scene, Thompson said.

Frisco Yankolovich's mother, Cheryl, told CBS 5 News that Christmas has turned into a nightmare.

"It's not anything you can describe," she said. "It's not real. It's not real. That's what it's like. It's not real."

She said her son was home from Montana for just 48 hours and riding his dirt bike, something he enjoyed doing.

"He's like Mr. Jeremiah Johnson," Cheryl Yankolovich said. "He loved to do anything outside. He lived in Montana, was going to school out there. He would go hiking and tenting and sleep in the snow. He worked on ranches. He was an outdoor boy."
