CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -
A 15-year-old boy riding a scooter across a Chandler street died of injuries after he was struck by a pickup truck Monday night.
The boy was crossing Arizona Avenue at Knox Road with two other children, who were on bicycles and had already crossed safely, when he was struck about 7:45 p.m., said Detective Seth Tyler of the Chandler Police Department.
The boy suffered a head injury and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died, Tyler said.
Tyler said it appeared the children crossed the street either against a yellow or a red light.
He said neither excessive speed nor impairment was a factor and that witnesses said the driver of the truck had entered the intersection on a green light. Tyler said the driver would not face charges.
He said the investigation was continuing.
