MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – One local man woke up last November and decided he was going to start selling Christmas trees.
Jason Brown is the owner of Christmas-Fir-A-Cause. They are located right beside Graham Golf Carts on Highway 17 Business near the Market Common. Brown says he wanted to give back to the community that has helped him. So, he bought and sold Christmas trees. Then, toward the end of the season, he was able to give back to people in need.
"I donated 22 trees to the Myrtle Beach Christian Mission," Brown says. "And I was like ‘I really want to give more back.' I've done great for myself, and I want to give back to the people who are less fortunate in our area."
Christmas-Fir-A-Cause has trees ranging from six feet to fourteen feet tall. Seven dollars and twenty-five cents from each purchase goes to the charity of the purchasers choice. Brown says everyone has trouble picking which charity their donation will go to. So, he helps them by highlighting which ones have gotten less.
"The biggest appeal to this whole thing is I want to give back," Brown continued. "I don't really care what I make out of it. I just want to help everybody else have a good Christmas. At the very end of this, I'm donating every single tree. What's not sold will be donated."
Christmas-Fir-A-Cause is consolidating all of their trees to the Highway 17 location, and Brown said trees will also be marked down this week. In addition to trees, they also sell holiday wreaths and home-grown mistletoe for that "holiday sugar" Brown says everyone needs.
